Nollywood has lost one of its own.
The death of Kunle Adetokunbo popularly known as “Dejo Tunfulu” broke out on the internet on the 1st of April 2022.
The Yoruba actor who had graced the screens of many was renowned for his comic acts. Many actors and actresses have taken to their social media handles to mourn the loss of one of their colleagues.
According to them, Dejo was a legend. The actor had died in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos State Nigeria at the age of 49. Dejo Tunfulu was born in Lagos island on May 1972, he is from Ikija Abeokuta Ogun state.
His first TV appearance was in 1987 in the drama series ” Apere ijongbon” by Kola international theater group.
He got his popular nickname “Dejo Tunfulu” through his comic roles in movies where he was always cast as a stammerer with his antics.
He had later joined the drama school club where he started honing his acting skills and he featured in stage plays in the early 1980s.
The movie that brought him into the limelight was “omo oran” featuring the veteran actor Fatai Adetayo”.
From there he had become popular and Yoruba movie lovers loved him.
The death of the actor was confirmed by Bolaji Amusan, the president of the Theater Arts Association of Nigeria.
It was reported that he died after a brief illness. Nollywood was thrown into a state of mourning following the news of his death on Friday morning. Fans on social media also paid their respects to the talented actor.
Some people did however use the moment to criticize the Nollywood industry, saying that they don’t celebrate or support each other while alive till one of them is dead and the show of “fake love” begins.
According to a Twitter user @theshawttynatt, she says “Rest in peace Dejo Tunfulu. Growing up, you graced our screen with your acting. May you find rest in the Lord. Amen”
Another Twitter user by the handle @___communicator said ” an icon who made our childhoods memorable with his comic acts is gone”.
