In a surprise twist, Multichoice, owners of Digital Satellite Television (DSTV), has concluded arrangements to broadcast the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) Cote d’Ivoire 2023 on its sporting channel, SuperSport.
Earlier, the company reportedly said it would not transmit the tournament ‘because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.’

Though in a new development, credible sources have now hinted that SuperSport will indeed show AFCON 2023 games starting from Saturday’s opener between hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau.
According to the source privy to the arrangements, SuperSport rights are non-exclusive and will therefore be available on most bouquets on DSTV and GOTV.
Also, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Afro Sports for transmission of all 52 matches of the AFCON in Cote D’ivoire.
Nigerians can turn to the NTA to enjoy the 2023 AFCON. The television giant has been broadcasting live happenings at AFCON on its popular NTA Sports 24, free to air.
This was following the announcement by Multichoice, the sub-Saharan African broadcast heavyweight that everyone including Nigerians might still be able to watch the football spectacle on DSTV sports channel, SuperSport.
Recall that Nigerians have been scrambling for alternative ways to watch the continent’s biggest football competition.
With the Super Eagles of Nigeria departing from Nigeria to Ivory Coast, Nigerians can only hope for this Super Eagles squad to repeat the feat achieved by the 2013 squad.
As always, the pressure will be much and the stakes will be high, but what the Super Eagles must avoid would be a repeat of what they played in the last Afcon where Tunisia surprisingly knocked them out in the round of 16.
But with a now more developed team, the then boys now looking more like men, the Super Eagles will hope to make history and win their Fourth AFCON title.
