A massive protest broke out in Minna, Niger State, on Monday as residents blocked major roads in the metropolis over what they termed as the unbearable high cost of living in the country.
The protesters, mainly women and youths, were heard chanting anti-government songs while security agents who were trailing the protesters restrained themselves from taking further action that would spark an uprising.
The demonstrators alleged that the rising cost of living, particularly food items, and the ‘I don’t care attitude’ of the government to the prevailing issue forced them into the massive protest and blocked major roads to hit the attention of the appropriate authorities.
The visibly frightened deputy governor of the state, Yakubu Garba, while addressing the protesters, said the government is aware of the situation and he assured that they are working towards reducing the cost of living and cushioning the effects of the petrol subsidy removal.

It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu removed fuel subsidies immediately after his inauguration seven months ago.
The decision which the president claimed was aimed at rebooting the ailing Economy had further compounded the hardship on average Nigerians.
