The Rivers State Governor has appointed Dr Vetty Agala as the acting executive secretary to the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) on Saturday.
While validating the appointment of the acting executive secretary, the governor also approved the implementation of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP).
According to Adaeze Oreh, the Commissioner for Health in the state, said that the programme will be responsible for overseeing health insurance coverage and access to quality healthcare for citizens and residents of the state.
“His Excellency Governor Siminialayi Fubara GSSRS has approved the implementation of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) and the appointment of Dr Vetty Agala as the Acting Executive Secretary,” Oreh obliged.

However, in a post shared on Facebook by the secretary to Rivers State Government, it was explained that RIVCHPP law had been passed by Rivers State Assembly in 2021 and had not been effected until now.
Rivers State was the only state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria which did not have an active state health insurance scheme.
