Adidas, the German sportswear giant, is celebrating a remarkable turnaround after parting ways with rapper Kanye West, announcing expectations of substantial profits in 2024.

Following the decision to sell its remaining Yeezy trainers from the collaboration with West at cost price, Adidas anticipates profits of €700 million (£598 million) this year.

This positive outlook marks a significant reversal for the company, which faced its first losses in 30 years just last month. Known for iconic shoes like Samba, Gazelle, and Campus, Adidas credits the better-than-expected performance in the first quarter for surpassing initial profit forecasts by €200 million.

The quarterly operating profit surged to €336 million, a notable increase from €60 million in the previous year, which was impacted by the dissolution of the partnership with West.

Adidas also reported selling €150 million worth of Yeezy products during the quarter, yielding a profit of approximately €50 million.

Looking ahead, the company plans to sell the remaining Yeezy stock for about €200 million later this year, albeit without further profit.

It reaffirmed its commitment to donate proceeds from these sales to charities combating hate, a pledge made in response to West’s controversial remarks in 2022 that led to the termination of the partnership.
