Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, has once again ascended to the position of the world’s richest individual, reclaiming the coveted title from Tesla chief, Elon Musk.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos’ net worth now stands at a staggering $200 billion, edging out Musk’s $198 billion fortune.
The resurgence of Bezos to the top spot comes amidst a period of volatility in the financial markets, particularly affecting Tesla’s share price. Musk, who leads not only Tesla but also ventures like X, formerly known as Twitter, and SpaceX, has experienced a notable decline in wealth, with his riches plummeting by over $30 billion as Tesla’s stock dipped by 25 percent in recent months.
Compounding Musk’s challenges, a court ruling in January invalidated his substantial Tesla compensation agreement, initially valued at $55.8 billion and established in 2018.
In contrast, Bezos has continued to enjoy an upward trajectory in wealth, fueled by Amazon’s soaring stock performance. Despite divesting $8.5 billion in shares recently, Bezos maintains his status as the largest shareholder of the ecommerce behemoth.
While Bezos relinquished his role as Amazon’s CEO, his financial influence over the company remains substantial, contributing to his enduring position as one of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
