Rivers State Police Frown at Officer Misconduct

The Rivers State Police Command has taken decisive action in the wake of disturbing allegations involving the unlawful abduction and extortion of two individuals by three of its officer.

The force Public Relation Officer,  SP Grace Iringe-Koko yesterday said the alleged three police officers,  ASP Doubara Edonyabo, ASP Talent Mungo and the Inspector Odey Michael are still under investigation.

Recall that on the 18th of January,m 2024, the Rivers State Police Command returned the sum of N4.2 million extorted from a victim by the police abductors.

“The victims were arrested in Abia State, taken to Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers States respectively for alleged fraud by yet to be seen complainant.

“It has been established that the actions of the officers in question were in clear violation of the law and the ethical standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force,”

Furthermore,  the force said that appropriate disciplinary measures are being taken to address this grave misconduct.

The police  stressed that the force is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.

The command reiterated that the behavior demonstrated by the implicated officers is completely unacceptable and does not represent the values and principles of our organisation.

“We deeply regret the negative impact that such misconduct may have on the reputation of the Rivers State Command and the Nigeria Police Force in general.

“The actions of a few individuals should not overshadow the dedication and sacrifice of the vast majority of our officers who serve with honor and distinction.

“The Inspector General of Police has consistently articulated a zero-tolerance stance against corruption and misconduct within the force, and this incident does not reflect the aspirations of the Nigeria Police Force as a whole.”

Reacting, the Inspector emphasised that the two officers have been issued official queries, and the inspector has been slated for an orderly room trial.

To confirm the commitment of the police force which align with transparency and accountability, the state command decided to publicly parade the officers before the press on to underscore the seriousness with which the police force view this matter.

However, the force reassured the public that the force remain resolute in their commitment to serving and protecting the community with the utmost professionalism and integrity.

He urged the public to continue to have faith in the force as   they strive to maintain the trust and confidence of the citizens in which they have sworn to serve.
