Zaidu Sanusi Suffers ACL Injury, Could Miss Season

Super Eagles defender, Zaidu Sanusi, has damaged his left knee’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which may rule him out of the season.

The development was announced by his club Porto FC on their X page last night.

The club further explained that according to medical checkups the 26-year-old also ruptured the external lateral ligament of the same knee.

The official post said that “The Nigerian international has a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament of his left knee.

Zaidu Sanusi was a member of the Super Eagles team that won silver at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The team lost 2-1 to the hosts in the final played at the Olympic Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan, on February 11. Sanusi played 86 minutes of the match before being subbed off for Joe Aribo.

Members of the Eagles squad were conferred with the national award of Member of the Order of Niger (MON) by President Bola Tinubu.

The president also granted a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a flat to each of them for their feat in Cote d’Ivoire.

ACL injury has always been a career altering injury as most athletes go away for as long as four to nine months after the injury and even then you may never fully recover from it.
