The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, congratulated and awarded the Super Eagles’ Keeper, Stanley Nwabali, with the sum of N20 million for his outstanding performance.
According to the report shared by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, signed by Boniface Onyedi, SSA, Media to the Governor of Rivers State on Facebook today, the award ceremony was held at the government house in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, on Friday.
The governor said his “administration will sustain purposeful governance and administrative efficiency because they are helping Rivers people engage in ventures that bring honour to the state.“
While hosting the Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Nwabali, whose performance won the hearts of Nigerians, including the governor, at the just concluded 2023 AFCON hosted in Ivory Coast.
The governor remarkably commended the Rivers-born Stanley Nwabali for his excellence shown during the 2023 AFCON tournament. Adding to that, he spoke of how much the goalkeeper has made Nigeria proud.
In his statement, he commended Nwabili: “I want to join the great and wonderful people of Rivers State to congratulate you, our brother Stanley Nwabali, and our wonderful team. We are here again in just about four months after you won a local trophy.
“Today, you have brought a national trophy. So, when people say or talk behind us to ask what we are doing, we are achieving those things that are not, maybe, seen physically, but they give joy and fulfilment.
“If we have not encouraged you in a way that motivated you, you won’t be where you are. So, it is part of purposeful governance and administrative efficiency. So, I want to thank you and assure you that we will continue to do our best.“
Fubara reiterated that his focus is to create an enabling environment in which Rivers people will continue to feel encouraged to do the right thing to align with what he is doing in changing the narrative of how Rivers State is perceived globally.
However, Fubara has urged the people of Rivers to continue to consciously do positive things that promote the state and attract honour.
He honoured Nwabali as a Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS). More so, the Rivers State Governor gave the sum of N30 million to the Super Eagles’ crew, who were present during the ceremony.
Governor Fubara also awarded the sum of N50 million to the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team for emerging as champions in the Louis Edem National League competition.

Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, hailed the state governor for his motivational support for the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team to clinch the national league trophy as champions.
Mr. Adokiye Amiesimaka, former Commissioner for Justice and one-time Super Eagles’ player, while recognising the impact of sports development in the state, commended the purposeful leadership of the state governor.
