Victims of alleged assaults from the notorious land-grabber, Urakat Abdullahi, alias Ibile in Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos State, have called on the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, to ensure justice for them.

Ibile was arrested by the combined team of the Inspector General of Police’s Special Tactical Squad and the force Intelligence Response Team on weekend.

He was arrested for allegedly brutalizing several people and illegally occupying their landed properties in the Ibeju- Lekki area of the state.

The land-grabber is currently being detained at the Special Tactical Squad and Force Intelligence Response Team Base, Guzape in Abuja.

The President of Lawyers for Reform Group, Hassan Oladotun, who briefed journalists at the STS office in Abuja accused Ibile of terrorising residents.

He stressed that some of the victims of his heinous acts had died from the attacks. He stated that Ibile allegedly engaged over 30 police orderlies to commit the alleged crimes, including attempted murder.

While calling on all security agencies and President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet, Oladotun said it would only be just if the accused was made to face trial.

The Group President said, “We are committed to ending terrorism, injustice and every other corrupt activity that we notice in our society. We call on the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun and President Bola Tinubu to ensure that Urakat Abdullahi, aka Ibile, and his gang members are arraigned in court and prosecuted based on the evidence provided by his victims, and the position of the law.

“Ibile is a notorious land-grabber who has been a big threat to the peace and livelihood of the good people of Lagos State, particularly victims within the Ibeju-Lekki area”.

Oladotun further claimed that his notorious activities have led to the death and incapacitation of some of his victims.

“Some of the victims of Ibile’s activities are here; this man here has been macheted on his head. These are victims of his terrorist conduct, and thankfully to the Office of the IGP, he has been arrested by the Special Tactical Squad and presently undergoing interrogation but we have only come to alert the world on this matter to ensure that it is not compromised.

“This is because the accused usually tells us that he has the key to the Nigeria Police and that nobody can do anything.

We have a lot of them that are in Lagos and across, but the issue of land-grabbing should not be taken for granted. We need to take it with all utmost attention. And that is why have come to appeal to the President to instruct the Director General of the Department of State Services and the IGP to ensure that everyone involved should be dealt with properly,” he disclosed.

The Group President, who said enough is enough for land grabbers, emphasised that they should be equated with terrorists because they also go into places, invade lands, kill people, and dispossess them of their rights.

“This man beside me was kidnapped and they were about to bury him alive if not for passers-by who are farmers in the bush, he would be dead by now,” he alleged.

One of the landowners, Mike Utomi, told journalists that Ibile allegedly organised thugs that destroyed his ongoing property while attacking his workers on site.

Ibile was also accused of threatening the lives of Chief Adetunji Fasasi, the Baale of Ilamija Village, Ibeju-Lekki
