In a bid to bolster the Nigerian economy, President Bola Tinubu is set to commission three vital gas infrastructure projects in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its partners.
A statement released by Tinubu’s spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Friday revealed that these initiatives aim to leverage the gas industry and curb gas flaring, thereby enhancing the federal government’s capacity to derive value from the nation’s gas assets.
The first project scheduled for commissioning is the AHL Gas Processing Plant 2 (GPP-2), with a processing capacity of 200 million metric cubic feet per day (mm/d), alongside the expansion of the Kwale Gas Processing Plant (GPP-1).
“This project represents an expansion of the Kwale Gas Processing Plant (GPP-1), which currently supplies approximately 130 million metric tonnes per day of gas to the domestic market. The processing plant is designed to handle 200 MMscf/d of rich gas and deliver lean gas through the OB3 Gas Pipeline. This additional gas supply will further support Nigeria’s rapid industrialization,” the statement read.
He also continued to state that “The plant will also produce approximately 160,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of propane and 100,000 MTPA of butane, thereby reducing dependency on LPG imports. The AHL Gas Plant is being developed by AHL Limited, an incorporated joint venture owned by NNPC Limited and SEEPCO.”
The second project slated for commissioning is the ANOH Gas Processing Plant (AGPC) with a capacity of 300 MMscf/d. The announcement described the project as follows:
“The ANOH gas plant is an integrated facility with a capacity of 300 MMscf/d designed to process non-associated gas from the Assa North-Ohaji South field in Imo State. The plant will produce dry gas, condensate, and LPG.
“The gas from the ANOH gas plant will significantly increase domestic gas supply, leading to higher power generation and accelerated industrialization. The ANOH Gas Plant is being developed by ANOH Gas Processing Company, an incorporated joint venture owned by NNPC Limited and Seplat Energy Plc on a 50-50 basis.”

The final project scheduled for commissioning is the ANOH-OB3 CTMS Gas Pipeline Project, described as follows: “The project involves the engineering, procurement, and construction of the 36″x23.3km ANOH-OB3 Project.
“The Transmission Gas Pipeline will transport dry gas from the Assa North-Ohaji South (ANOH) primary treatment facility (PTF) to the OB3 Custody Transfer Metering Station (CTMS) for delivery into the OB3 pipeline system. It is estimated that approximately 600 MMscf/d will be available from two separate 2 x 300 MMscf/d capacity gas processing production trains from AGPC and SPDC JV.”
The commissioning dates for these projects have not been disclosed as of the time of writing this report.
