The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has cleared N12 billion in salary and allowance arrears owed to athletes, administrators, sportsmen and women.

This came after a courtesy visit spearheaded by John Enoh and other delegates from the management of the Federal Ministry of Sports at the ministerial office in Abuja on Thursday.

According to the Minister, the initiative was aimed at motivating sportsmen and women to fully commit to their country.

Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant in Media to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, reported Mohammed Idris’ emphasis about Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving the transformative power of sports and deepen unity and cohesion in the country.

He also emphasised the importance of sports in nation-building and development and commended the Minister of Sports, Senator Enoh, for his dedication to developing sports in the country.

In response to Enoh’s request for increased media coverage of sporting events, Mohammed Idris approved the establishment of a committee to explore collaboration opportunities between their ministries.

Meanwhile, Enoh expressed interest in partnering with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and its media outlets to promote sports in the country.

However, he proposed creating a calendar for sporting events to guide public media coverage, mentioning upcoming events such as the National Sports Festival in Ogun State, the National Youth Games in Asaba, and the Para Games.

Mr. Enoh praised President Tinubu for establishing a dedicated Ministry for Sports, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
