President Bola Tinubu on Monday pledged to address the clashes between farmers and herders within a timeframe of two to three weeks if state governors supply the necessary land for implementation.
Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Minna Airport terminal and the commissioning of agro-processing equipment acquired by the Niger State government, Tinubu emphasized the urgency of resolving the persistent conflicts between farmers and herders across the country.
He urged governors to promptly disburse the N30,000 minimum wage to alleviate the financial burdens of the workers.
Additionally, Tinubu commended Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, for his agricultural initiatives, applauding them as significant strides toward economic development.
The president also highlighted the detrimental effect of cattle grazing on farmer’s crops, saying “I know what it means as an economic sabotage for roaming cows to eat up the crops of our farmers. I know what it means, I know it could be painful.”
“When we re-orient the herders and make provision for cattle rearing, the problems will be solved.” He added.
Speaking directly to the governors, he charged them “to provide the land, I, as the president, I am committed to giving you in two, three weeks’ time a comprehensive programme that will solve this problem.”
Furthermore, the president encouraged governors to collaborate in agricultural ventures to harness each state’s comparative advantages, thereby generating revenue and employment opportunities for their youths.

President Tinubu affirmed his commitment to supporting hunger eradication and emphasized the importance of taking immediate action to address the country’s challenges.
During his visit, Tinubu held closed-door discussions with former Heads of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, and General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Dignitaries present at the event included governors from Lagos, Benue, Kwara, and Kogi states, as well as former Niger State Governor Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu.
