The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has approved the indefinite suspension of the Managing Director of Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmad Ahmad, and three others from their respective offices on Thursday.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, it was stated that the suspension came after the completion of a comprehensive investigation into the financial activities of Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
In a bid to clarify, the statement further disclosed that the president “ordered a wider investigation into the conduct of the aforementioned officials in a fraudulent expenditure amounting to over N1.2b over the past two years, some of which has already been recovered by anti-graft agencies.“
Tinubu believes that all appointees under his administration are “to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.”
The president stressed that it is “his determination to elevate the yearnings of Nigerians for good governance and qualitative service delivery above the narrow interests of individuals who are entrusted to provide critical services to the Nigerian people.”

Following the directive of the Nigerian President, new executive members have been appointed to act and serve as the new management team of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) with immediate effect.
The suspended members include: Executive Director, Corporate Services, Olaniyi Netufo; Executive Director, Technical Services, Barka Sajou; and Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund (REF), Sa’adatu Balgore.
The new appointees are: Managing Director/CEO, Abba Aliyu; Executive Director, Corporate Services, Ayoade Gboyega; Executive Director, Technical Services,Umar Umar; Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund (REF), Doris Uboh; and Head of Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project, Olufemi Akinyelure.
