The Oyo State Government has debunked the claim that it has neglected the Bodija bomb explosion victims in Ibadan.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, is said to have debunked the report of abandonment in a statement made on Monday.
According to report, the state commissioner disclosed that the state government has been spending between N15 million and N20 million weekly on accommodating and feeding the victims since January 16, when the explosion happened.
The publication describes the rumour “as not only unfair and unnecessary, but wicked“. Oyelade said the government had picked up “a medical bill of over N17 million, while those still in hospitals were being actively catered for.
“As we speak, the government has spent over N160 million on hotel accommodation and feeding of the victims…38 of them are still residing in different hotels.”
The commissioner disclosed a weekly allocation of N2 million for security personnel safeguarding the victims’ abandoned properties. In history statement, he said, “some victims reportedly faced eviction from their lodgings. Nothing can be farther from the truth.
“One of the hotels at Idi-Ape informed their occupants they would like to fumigate their premises, and the government took it upon itself to immediately arrange transportation for the victims to be accommodated in another hotel at Jericho, together with members of their families.

“The government does not think making an issue of fumigating a facility is the correct thing to do because such an exercise is routine and the prerogative of the hotel owners,” Oyelade obligingly recounted.
Oyelade however expressed gratitude for the explosion victims’ and the general public’s understanding, highlighting their acknowledgment of the government’s sincerity in allocating millions to protect the victims’ abandoned properties.
