The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has suspended the king of Ido community, Oba Gbolagade Babalola, over a report that he was connected to the recent explosion in Ibadan.
A statement shared on the X handle of the Oyo government stated that a letter dated February 2, 2024, and signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Olusegun Olayiwola, indicated that Governor Seyi Makinde approved the suspension on February 1, 2024.
The presumed Gbadewolu I, who is also the Onido of Ido in the Ido Local Government Area, was allegedly linked to the illegal miners who were the reason for the unfortunate event that occurred in January 17, 2024 — explosion in Oyo State that caused casualties because of the explosive materials used by illegal mining companies in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Oyelade, disclosed that the King Babalola was suspended due to intelligence reports linking him to illegal miners in the Ido Local Government Area. He also added that the investigation is ongoing.
“The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, revealed that the Onido of Ido was suspended because of intelligence reports linking him to illegal miners in Ido Local Government Area. The matter is being investigated,” the Commissioner mentioned.
