Governor Seyi Makinde, Police Defend Non-violent Protest in Ibadan

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, along with the state’s Police Command was today present at the protesting gathering of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ibadan, ensuring orderliness and violent interruption.

The NLC protest which took place today, 27th February, 2024, at Total Garden, along Secretariat Road, Agodi, Ibadan, featured a peaceful convergence of people from various social classes.

Governor Seyi Makinde took his time out to be present at the ground of the protest thereby joining forces with the members of the NLC by making sure there was no trace of violence of any sort.

The major objective of the protest, which is expected to last till tomorrow, is for the protesting members to express their displeasure over the economic condition of the country.

According to what was inscribed on the placards held by the protesters, the evidences showed that they were already discomfited by the presence of the increasing poverty and hunger in the land.

In response, the governor made efforts to calm the situation while revealing that he too is sharing in the unfriendly state of things. He spoke about his reason for joining in the industrial action, being that he feels the “deteriorating economic situation in the country,” a news reporter stated.
