On the 7th March, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealed that no fewer than 260,000 candidates participated in this year’s Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across 793 Computer-Based Test centers nationwide.
The Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the mock exam after monitoring several centers in Abuja. He stated that the purpose of the mock exam was to assess the preparedness of candidates for the main UTME, scheduled to commence on April 19th, 2024.
Professor Oloyede disclosed that despite minor incidents recorded in about four centers during the mock exam, the issues would be resolved promptly. He also mentioned that the exam body recently conducted a successful recruitment examination for the Nigerian Police.
In his remarks, Professor Oloyede indicated that 1.98 million candidates had registered for the main 2024 UTME, with over 260,000 participating in the mock exam. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a limited number of participants in the mock exam to avoid turning it into another full-scale examination.
Regarding the readiness for the main UTME, Professor Oloyede assured that JAMB is fully prepared, with new mechanisms set to be deployed to enhance the integrity of the examination system.

Furthermore, the JAMB boss announced that the results of the Mock UTME would be released either on Thursday evening or Friday.
He commended the efforts of the Information and Communications Technology consultant at JAMB, Damilola Bamiro, stating that the exam body was in constant communication with all participating centers through the JAMB’s Situation Room, ensuring swift resolution of any issues during the examination.
As the 2024 UTME approaches, candidates and stakeholders are gearing up for the main examination, which is expected to run from April 19th to April 29th, 2024, according to the initial schedule announced by JAMB.
