Nigerians residing in New York have once again appealed to the Federal Government to provide passport production printers to the Nigeria Consulate, aiming to improve passport services for the Nigerian community in the United States.
During a virtual 12th Town Hall Meeting organized by the Consulate, attendees expressed their concerns over the lack of passport production facilities in New York. The jurisdiction of the New York Consulate covers 20 states across the United States, making it one of the busiest consulates for passport services.
Participants questioned why the Federal Government had only established one passport production center in the United States, located in Washington, DC. They highlighted the discrepancy in resource allocation, noting that while the Washington, DC center serves 10 states, the New York Consulate caters to 20 states without its own passport production capability.
The lack of passport printers at the New York Consulate has been a long-standing issue, with repeated appeals made to the Federal Government for intervention. Organizations such as the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) and its partners have actively campaigned for the installation of passport production printers at both the New York and Atlanta consulates.
In response to the concerns raised, Amb. Lot Egopija, the Consul General of Nigeria in New York, assured attendees that efforts had been made to communicate the urgency of the matter to the government.
He expressed hope that passport production printers would soon be provided to enhance consular services at the New York and Atlanta Consulates.

Amb. Egopija acknowledged the dedication of Nigerians in attending the town hall meetings, emphasizing the importance of constructive feedback in improving consular services.
He reassured attendees of the Consulate’s commitment to ensuring timely passport issuance for Nigerian nationals.
As the campaign for passport printers gains momentum, Nigerians in New York remain hopeful for a swift resolution to the issue, which will alleviate the challenges faced by applicants seeking passport services in the region.
