Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar has said some Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) sponsored the fire outbreak that occurred in one of the Internally Displaced Camps (IDP) a few weeks ago.
The commissioner in a statement shared on Borno State Government Sunday said a suspects apprehended in connection to the fire outbreak made the confession.
According to the statement, the commissioner received a report on Saturday that the suspects told security operatives they were hired by some NGOs whose names were withheld to set IDP camps on fire.
Due to the recent rise of fire outbreaks in IDP camps, the state government said it’s determined to get to the root cause of the infernos as well as develop strategies to halt future occurrences.
The government declared that all hands are on deck to forestall any further occurrence of fire outbreaks in the state.
Recall that on March 12 fire engulfed Muna Alamdari IDPs camp in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, resulting in the loss of two children.
Meanwhile, more investigation is ongoing with the aid of the detainees and the allies. The sponsored NGOs have been called upon for an interrogation session.

Furthermore, the State Government assured the public that the matter will be treated accordingly, and anyone found guilty will face the law.
“The citizens of the state have been asked to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding and are encouraged to report every suspicious movement to members of security operatives or traditional rulers ‘for transmission to the relevant authority.”
