The Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, Richard Somiari, has provided an update regarding the autopsy of the late singer, Mohbad.
Speaking during a recent session of the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, Somiari assured that the autopsy results would be unveiled within the next three to four weeks.
Mohbad’s tragic passing on September 12, 2023, came as a shock to the Nigerian music industry. With his burial swiftly taking place the next day, speculations began to surround the circumstances of his demise.
Aged just 27, the singer’s unexpected death prompted the Lagos State Government to initiate a thorough investigation, culminating in the ongoing coroner’s inquest at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.
During his testimony, Somiari shed light on the meticulous process involved in unraveling the mystery shrouding Mohbad’s death. “We expect to get the first set of autopsy results in three to four weeks and re-confirm to authenticate the cause of the death,” Somiari stated.
He further emphasized the exhaustive nature of the investigation, exploring various avenues including the possibility of poisoning, given the absence of a definitive cause of death.
Amidst the technicalities of forensic examination, Somiari assured the public of stringent security measures in safeguarding the integrity of the autopsy samples. “We have a place where items are stored for safety and security of results. There is a procedure for monitoring samples moved abroad,” he affirmed.
Testifying alongside Somiari, Sadiq Ayobami, also known as Spendy, recounted his last encounter with Mohbad. Ayobami recalled attending a concert with Mohbad in Ikorodu, preceding their return to his residence, before parting ways shortly before the singer’s demise.
Abiodun Kolawole, representing the African Women Lawyers Association, urged Mohbad’s parents to seek legal redress regarding the paternity dispute surrounding the singer’s child, steering away from the pitfalls of online speculation.

Recall that the date for the hearing of the late singer’s paternity case was recently fixed.
In a statement by Monisola Odumosu, the head of the Aloba family’s legal team, it was revealed that a date has been set for the court to consider Aloba’s request for a DNA test.
“A date has been fixed for mention of the application for a DNA test by the family of late singer Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba known as Mohbad, who died in an unusual circumstance on September 12, 2023,” the statement read.
The application, lodged at the Ikorodu Magistrate Court under the reference MKD/31/FAM/2024, pits Joseph Aloba against Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba, as the family seeks clarity regarding the paternity of Liam Aloba, the alleged son of the deceased singer.
“The family, represented by the deceased’s father, is seeking an order directing a deoxyribonucleic acid test to be conducted following the paternity of an alleged son of Mr Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba (deceased), Liam Aloba, in a recognised and accredited private or government medical facility within Lagos State, Nigeria at the expense of the applicant,” the statement further elucidated.
Mohbad’s father also called upon the authorities to investigate his daughter-in-law, Omowunmi, regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of the singer.
