The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu is poised to address a significant legal matter brought forward by Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer – Mohbad – concerning the paternity of his grandson, Liam.
In a recent statement by Monisola Odumosu, the head of the Aloba family’s legal team, it was revealed that a date has been set for the court to consider Aloba’s request for a DNA test.
“A date has been fixed for mention of the application for a DNA test by the family of late singer Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba known as Mohbad, who died in an unusual circumstance on September 12, 2023,” the statement read.
The application, lodged at the Ikorodu Magistrate Court under the reference MKD/31/FAM/2024, pits Joseph Aloba against Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba, as the family seeks clarity regarding the paternity of Liam Aloba, the alleged son of the deceased singer.
“The family, represented by the deceased’s father, is seeking an order directing a deoxyribonucleic acid test to be conducted following the paternity of an alleged son of Mr Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba (deceased), Liam Aloba, in a recognised and accredited private or government medical facility within Lagos State, Nigeria at the expense of the applicant,” the statement further elucidated.
Mohbad’s father has also called upon the authorities to investigate his daughter-in-law, Omowunmi, regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of the singer.

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Mohbad, had earlier this year, voiced his dissatisfaction with the progress of the police investigation into the cause of his son’s death.
Following the death of Mohbad, former signee of Naira Marley, on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 in Lagos State, rising speculations forced an investigation team to be set up in a bid to dig into the cause of the demise.
The sloth in the efforts of the Lagos State Police Command 13-man Special Investigation Team which was set up on September 18, 2023, to probe the mysterious death of the singer made Joseph Aloba express his discontent in an interview on Trust TV today.
Aloba highlighted his expectation that the police would accompany him to search Mohbad’s house after he reported the incident; a step he claims has not been taken.
Furthermore, Aloba lamented the lack of information regarding the autopsy report, stating, “I am not satisfied with the police investigation. When I carried Mohbad’s body to the police station, my expectation is that they would follow me to search his house or give me the police (autopsy) report which they have not given me.”
He urged the authorities to intensify efforts, emphasizing the importance of justice and expressing concern that delays may lead to denial.
While calling on the government to take decisive action, Aloha stated, “I am begging the government to put more effort so that things can go on fine as people expect“.
The singer’s body was exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023, as part of the investigation. However, Aloba has not been provided with the autopsy report, contributing to his dissatisfaction with the ongoing process.
In November 2023, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that the command had not officially received the autopsy report, dispelling rumors suggesting otherwise. Hundeyin reiterated, “We work with facts,” and emphasized the need to await the official report from the pathologists conducting the autopsy.
The death of Mohbad also resulted in the arrests of Naira Marley and the controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry, among others.
