The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Ilorin Zonal Command have nabbed 41 alleged suspects and sized 12 trucks for possession of different illegal mining minerals without registered licences in Kwara and Oyo.

On July 12, 2023, the command secured the sentence of Gang Deng, a Chinese national, and forfeited two trucks to the Federal Government, which contained mineral contents. They also arrested 13 Chinese nationals, comprising a female and 12 males, for offences bordering on illegal mining.

The commission disclosed on their X handle on Wednesday that the suspects arrested on Monday, February 5, would be charged to court as soon as investigations have been concluded.

The alleged suspects were arrested in various locations in Share, Banni, Lade, Patigi, and Okolowo in Kwara State, while others were nabbed in Igbeti and Ogbomosho in Oyo State.

Their arrest followed credible intelligence over the activities of illegal miners transporting truckloads of assorted minerals outside the state without requisite licences,” the commission said.
