Chaos at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal One as fire broke out in the early hours of this morning, forcing the diversion of all flight operations to D Wing.
The E54 Bridge of the airport’s Terminal One was engulfed in flames, prompting immediate action from electrical engineers who swiftly cut off power to the E Wing of the facility.
Smoke billowed from the affected area, triggering alarms and prompting the deployment of the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team, who arrived at the scene within minutes.
Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority (FAAN), issued a statement confirming the incident. She stated, “At 05:29 hrs, smoke was detected billowing from the E54 Bridge, leading electrical engineers to immediately cut off power to the entire E Wing.”
The statement continued, “The incident, which had escalated into a fire, was brought under control by 06:41 hrs. Efforts to ventilate the smoke from the building are in progress.”
