The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, has issued a resignation letter to the People Democratic Party (PDP).
The one-time governor of Imo disclosed this in his resignation letter dated Tuesday, April 23.
In the letter, he described himself as one of the founding members since he joined the party in 1998 and as having played a part in the development and transformation of the party.
Mr Ihedioha expressed his commitment to growing along with the party but found dismay in the recent direction of the party.

He attributed his reason of resignation to how the party shys away from calling the house for internal reforms and providing credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“Regrettably, in recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly, no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules, or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.”
However, Mr Ihedioha, after careful consideration, pledges that despite his resignation, his house remains open to accommodate those who seek counselling to improve democracy and good governance within the country, Nigeria.
“Despite this resignation, I will always be available to offer my services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria, ” the letter stated.
