Simi Adeagbo, also known as Simi Sleighs, becomes the ever first African to compete in the bobsleigh BMW IBSF world championship.
Once again another barrier has been shattered, another glass broken as Simi Sleighs puts Nigeria and the whole Africa on the map.
Over the weekend, she made history as the first African athlete to have competed in bobsleigh at the BMW IBSF World Championship in Winterburg, Germany.
Following that feature, Nigeria also became the first African country to be so represented in bobsleigh at a World Championship in the 100-year history of IBSF.
Bobsleigh, also known as bobsled, is a team winter sport where timed runs are made in a gravity-powered sledge down small, winding, banked, icy tracks.

The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation governs bobsleigh competitions across the world (IBSF).
Who is Simi Sleighs?
For those who do not know her, her full name is Simidele Adeife Omonla Adeagbo and she was born on July 29, 1981, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
She is a Nigerian skeleton racer she represented the country during the 2018 winter Olympics.
Simi Sleighs holds a lot of accolades for both Nigeria and Africa as she is the first black female Olympian in the sport. In 2022, she won the woman’s mono bob event in the 2022 EuroCup, held in Germany.
In so doing, she became the first athlete from Africa to win an international sled race. Before competing in skeleton races, Adeagbo competed in triple jump, last competing in 2008.
Asides her wonderful sporting career, she has also made some strides in her professional career. Simi has been a marketing manager for Nike in South Africa since 2012.
Also, on August 18, 2018, Adeagbo spoke alongside other noteworthy speakers, to a sold-out audience during the TEDx Lagos spotlight event at the Muson Centre.
She shared the stage with legal practitioner Supo Shasore, Award-winning technologist Ade Olufeko, Art curator Tokini Peterside, and media personality Banky W, amongst others.
