Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State announced the distribution of tractors, ploughs, harrows, and Ridgers to farm clusters and farmlands at subsidized rates to strengthen large-scale farming, enhance food security, and alleviate poverty in the state.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the Governor highlighted the significance of the distribution in Kwara, stating that his administration did not inherit any functional tractors upon assuming office in 2019.
Additionally to the distribution of farming equipment, the State Government created an Agriculture Help Desk at the ministry.
The desk will assist farmers, processors, and investors by addressing challenges related to finances and offering technical advisory support.
Also, the Agriculture Help Desk is tasked with guiding indigenous farmers on optimal farm inputs, chemicals, and technical services to enhance productivity.
Such support is expected to contribute to increased food production and security across the state.

Notably, over 10,000 farmers have benefited from the agricultural input subsidy scheme. Farmers in the state are receiving various inputs at 50% of the market price.
Governor AbdulRazaq announced plans for a new phase of the scheme later in the year that aligns with the state’s strategic objectives for food security and sustainable development.
The agricultural sector in Kwara State has seen significant attention since 2020 when Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq launched a 10-year Agricultural Transformation Plan.
The plan aims to ensure food security, generate employment opportunities, and reduce the poverty rate through six pillars focusing on crop production, finance, livestock, access to markets, value chain, and cross-cutting programmes.
