In a bid to tackle the pressing issues of food security and soaring prices of essential food items in Nigeria, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to distribute confiscated food items to the populace.
On Tuesday, Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, revealed the service’s commitment to facilitating the direct disposal of forfeited food items to the Federal Government.
These items, deemed fit for consumption by relevant agencies, will be distributed equitably across Nigeria through the Areas of Operations of Customs Service.
“We are dedicated to ensuring transparency, fairness, and public safety throughout this process,” stated Adeniyi. “Our aim is to ensure that the benefits of this initiative reach those most in need,” he said.
