Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has directed the Head of Service, Mallam Fannami, to halt the current biometric data capture process for civil servants by the end of February.
Governor Zulum in a statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday gave the directives on Tuesday while speaking with Zanna Umarti Primary School and Government Secondary School teachers in Damasak town in the state.
He also charged the Head of Service to derive other means of authentication for obtaining data from civil servants immediately.

Zulum expressed dismay with the current biometric process, adding that civil servants, especially teachers, bear more stress by leaving their duty posts in order to meet deadlines.
“The biometric exercise subjects civil servants to undue stress, particularly teachers who have to leave their duty posts in order to meet deadlines.
“This issue of biometrics is becoming worrisome. Once someone has a BVN or NIN, I think it is okay. We have to stop these biometrics. Head of the Service, you have to take note that all biometric exercises should be concluded before the end of February. From March 1st, no more biometric exercise.
“We have many methods of identifying duplication in the system. Once someone has a valid account number, BVN is linked, and they have an NIN, any anomaly can be identified.
“Convey my approval to the Ministry of Finance and the biometric unit that all pending exercises should be concluded by the end of February.”
