In a bid to stop the transmission of HIV and other STDs, Nigerians are being advised by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS to practice responsible and safe sexual behaviour over the holiday season.
The Head of Etiquette and Public Relations of NACA, Toyin Aderibigbe, stated this in a press statement yesterday.
The statement quoted Dr Gambo Aliyu, the Director General of NACA, to be cautioning that engaging in risky or filthy sexual practices could greatly increase the chance of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
“The holidays are a joyful and festive time of year, and as we spend time with our loved ones, we must put our health and wellbeing first.
“As we celebrate this festive season, let us make responsible choices in our intimate lives. By adopting and advocating for responsible sexual practices, we can collectively contribute to a healthier and happier community.
“Abstinence, maintaining faithfulness to your partner, and consistently using condoms are among the most effective measures to prevent the transmission of these infections,” Aliyu said.
He further stressed that the agency remained committed to raising awareness and promoting preventive measures that would safeguard public health.
NACA is Nigeria’s primary agency responsible for coordinating and controlling HIV/AIDS programmes, providing strategic direction, support, and coordination to all stakeholders involved in prevention, treatment, care, and support efforts.
