In response to the recent surge in kidnappings within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has convened an emergency closed-door meeting today, with security agency heads and Area Council Chairmen.
The minister sought to address the growing concerns following incidents such as the abduction of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar and 13-year-old Folasade Ariyo.
Wike, addressing the press before the meeting, reassured FCT residents, stating that there was no need to panic. He emphasized his commitment and that of the security agencies to tackle the security challenges in the territory.
The meeting aimed to devise solutions, involving collaboration with Area Council Chairmen to ensure the safety of Abuja.
The urgency of the situation was underscored by the reported demand of a N700 million ransom by kidnappers after the killing of Folashade Ariyo. The minister acknowledged the gravity of the challenges and pledged support to security agencies with aims to enhance the collective responsibility to resolve the issues.
