Super Eagles’ star, Bright Osayi-Samuel, faces possible arrest on his return to Turkey, over his clash with a pitch invader.
The player, who is currently away on international duty with Nigeria’s Super Eagles, could be in trouble over an incident that occurred during the match between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe.
According to a Turkish sports outlet, the saga revolves around a ‘knife-wielding joker’ who charged onto the pitch after the heated encounter, causing chaos and confrontation with players from the opposing team. The individual, who was involved in the exchange with Osayi, has reportedly lodged complaints against Osayi-Samuel and others, alleging mistreatment during the brawl.
The process remains on hold as Osayi-Samuel’s current absence delays the process. However, it is speculated that upon his arrival in Istanbul, he may face detainment by authorities for questioning.
Osayi-Samuel, in response, has said that he only stood up for his teammates, adding that, “The fans attacked the team. Some had weapons on them, and I had to defend my team. It was self-defence, that’s what happened. My teammates suffered cuts and bruises, some were scared, and several others also joined me to try to defend the team.”

Speaking on the matter, Miraç Kara, the complainant’s lawyer, emphasized the severity of the allegations against Osayi-Samuel and his teammates. Kara said “Osayi-Samuel and his teammates brutally kicked the victim’s head on the ground.
He further added that “Their calves are strong due to their profession, and the boots they wore with crampons could be deemed as weapons.”
Kara also highlighted the potential dangers of such confrontations, noting that, “When an individual is hit, that person may suffer from a brain haemorrhage.”
He went on to emphasize the urgency of the situation, stating, “It wasn’t necessary for my client to die or suffer a brain haemorrhage before taking statements from the Fenerbahçe players.“
