Maurizio Sarri has resigned from his role as manager of Lazio, following a 2-1 defeat to Udinese which was part of a four match losing streak.
The news came after their exit from the Champions League’s last 16 at the hands of Bayern Munich last week.
The Italian coach had informed the Serie A club on Tuesday 12, March, that he would not be continuing as head coach thus stepping down with immediate effect.
That decision comes after the Eagles threw away a one-goal advantage from the first leg to exit the Champions League’s round of 16 last week.
England captain, Harry Kane, inspired the Bavarian Giants to a 3-0 win on the night and a 3-1 aggregate victory.
In Sarri’s last game, Lazio lost 2-1 at home to Udinese.
This left Lazio seven points from Atalanta, who sit in Italy’s Europa Conference League place and a further four away from the final Champions League spot held by Bologna.

Lazio finished second last season but is currently ninth after losing 12 of their 28 league fixtures.
Sarri became Lazio’s boss in June 2021, following a season each at Chelsea and Juventus – plus a brief sabbatical after leaving the Old Lady.
That means the Italian boss spent almost as much time at the Rome club as he did with Napoli, where he made a name for himself between 2015 and 2018.
Despite not being able to pick up a trophy during his two-and-a-half years with the Eagles, Sarri celebrated several thrilling derby victories and was able to return Lazio to once again playing Tuesday/Wednesday night Champions League football.
Despite some impressive work early in his Lazio career, success has fickled off in recent months.
That defeat to Bayern forms part of a four-match losing streak across all competitions, with the Eagles picking up just three wins from 11 matches since mid-January.
Although they still have a Coppa Italia semi finals against Juventus with their current form, it would be difficult for them to win.
