Police Arrests 39-Year-Old Motorcycle Robbery Kingpin In Ondo

A 39-year-old mastermind in a motorcycle robbery ring in Ondo state, Dolapo Babalola, has been detained for the murder of a rider in the Oke-Igbo region of the state.

Police conducted an inquiry after receiving a report from Ondo Town on March 25, 2024, stating that a motorcycle registered under the license plate KAK 136 VF had been stolen on March 15, 2024, and that the rider, Evangelist Opeyemi Oyelakin, was also missing.

Following the report of the motorcycle robbery, police detectives swung into action and arrested one Babalola Dolapo Daniel immediately sane day.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the said Opeyemi Oyelakin who is ‘deceased ’ was his childhood friend, and they had not seen for a very long time until March 14 of this year.

He added that on March 15, himself (Dolapo Babalola) and one Sikiru Mutiu aka S.K deceived the ‘deceased’ Oyelakin to carry them on a motorcycle to where they claimed to have had a farm in the Oke-Igbo area of the state.

On getting there, report said it was there they gripped the deceased from behind, while he (Dolapo) used a stick and stone to hit him on his head. After the victim died, the corpse was dragged to a shallow pit around a farm and they covered the corpse with leaves before his motorcycle was stolen.

The suspect took a team of police detectives to the scene of the crime, where they carried out the act. The corpse together with the stick and stone was then recovered.

He further confessed that he has a large syndicate of motorcycle robbers and has been in the business of snatching motorcycles since 2021, committing not less than sixteen different operations, and selling the stolen motorcycles to a nearby state at the range of #600,000.
