The Anti-kidnapping Unit of Ogun State Police Command rescued a male kidnapped victim, Tunde Osifowokan, unhurt after an exchange of guns with the alleged kidnappers in the early hours of Thursday on the Benin-Sagamu motorway.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, shared that the victim was kidnapped from a farm in Idowa, Odogbolu Local Government, Ogun State on March 18.
Adding that, following the order given by the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Mustapha, “the detective should track the kidnappers and endeavour to rescue the victim unhurt.”
Meanwhile, after surveillance was conducted to ascertain the location of the kidnappers, the police swung into action along with the local hunters, forest guards, vigilantes, and Amotekun officers by opening fire against the kidnappers.
Odutola recounted that as a result of the gun battle, five kidnappers were killed, while three others, who were hit by bullets, escaped into the forest.
The remains of the dead kidnappers have been deposited in the mortuary and deposited at the State Hospital for autopsy.
According to further statement, no security personnel were killed during the encounter. Many of them only sustained minor injuries during the operation, while items were recovered.

The items recovered include a cash sum of N1,185,070 million Naira, a power bank, cell phones, a sword, substances suspected to be hard drugs, empty shells of an AK47 rifle, criminal charms, and sticks.
The statement reiterated that various efforts have been made “to comb the forest for more clues to further arrest other fleeing suspects and recover their operational weapons.”
