Nigeria police in Abuja has arrested a pregnant woman who faked her kidnap with the connivance of a man, named Walter, to extort her husband of the sum of N2 million.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igwe, said on March 11, one Chidozie Ubah of Saburi 11 in Dei-Dei in Abuja had visited the police to report that his pregnant wife left home to the hospital for baby scanning, but had since then not returned home.

“He later received a call through his wife’s phone number telling him that his wife had been kidnapped and demanded two (2) million naira ransom before her release.

“He transferred the sum of two (2) million naira into his wife’s account as instructed by the kidnapper,” the commissioner said.

Speaking further, CP Igwe said Uba brought his wife to the station after her release from the kidnappers for an official report.

During interrogation, the victim of the fake kidnap made a confessional statement to have extorted money from her husband.

Walter was later arrested and confessed that his share was eight hundred thousand (N800,000) naira, while the lady took one million and two hundred thousand naira (N1,200,000) as her share.

The police, however, recovered the sum of seven hundred and ninety-three thousand, five hundred naira (N793,500) cash, two (2) FCMB ATM cards, and two Android phones from the two suspects.

The commissioner said the two kidnap suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
