In the Maisani area of the Timbuktu Triangle within the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, troops of Operation Lake Sanity III, a branch of Operation Hadin Kai, have taken a major step against terrorism by dismantling a covert bread production facility run by terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Security analyst and counter-insurgency specialist, Zagazola Makama, confirmed that the finding was made yesterday during a thorough exploitation mission into the infamous terrorists’ enclave by the combined forces of the 199 Special Forces Battalion, Hybrid Forces, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The facility was destroyed, according to Makama, and the things found during the raid included two Lister generating plants, a baking machine, and a variety of baking supplies.
This success came during a week-long clearance operation in the Timbuktu Triangle, which includes places like Buk 1, 2, and 3, Talala, Ajigin, Dusula, Abulam, and Gorgi, and is notorious for housing extremist groups. The operation’s goal was to eliminate terrorist bases in the region.
Makama emphasized how the forces’ complicated terrain—which includes well-defended camps concealed by thick vegetation and a plethora of IEDs—presented strategic obstacles.
“The troops continued to maintain high fighting efficiency despite the complexity of the terrain characterized by highly fortified camps mostly located under thick foliage and IEDs planted in several locations within the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement read.
The terrorists’ cells in question are primarily accountable for a range of disruptive activities, including ambushes, attacks, and the laying of IEDs and mine incidents.
They primarily targeted key locations were Askira, Buratai, and Buni Yadi, which included the destruction of the high-tension transmission line that connects Borno and Yobe State.
