Ahead of plans for the passport automation innovation, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conducted a comprehensive inspection of Nigeria Immigration Service facilities in Abuja on Monday, gearing up for the imminent automation of the passport application process scheduled to commence on January 8, 2024.
The Minister, accompanied by the Comptroller General of the Service, Wura-Ola Adepoju, shared visuals of the inspection on his official X handle on Tuesday.
Tunji-Ojo highlighted the significance of the inspection, stating, “Yesterday, I inspected facilities of the #nigimmigration, gearing up for the automation of the passport application process, starting January 8, 2024. Nigerians will soon be able to apply and complete their passport applications online without human contact.”
This comes in the wake of the Minister’s announcement in December, revealing the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving a fully automated passport application system. At that time, Tunji-Ojo mentioned that the automated application system was “99% done,” ensuring a seamless process that includes uploading passport photos and supporting documents.
