Justice Charles Wali, who presided over the case at the Rivers State High Court, has declared the seats of 25 House Assembly members vacant and ordered that the affected members should stop parading themselves as members.
The announcement became public notice today in a letter posted on the website of the Rivers State government, ordering the exits of its House of Assembly members.
To this end, the order of interlocutory injunction was granted and also restricted Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Attorney-General of Rivers State and Honourable Chief Judge of Rivers State, being the 26th to 28th defendants, from “dealing with, interfacing with, accepting any resolutions, bills, and/or howsoever interacting” with Martin Amaewhule and the 24 lawmakers.
In the suit filed by Victor Jumbo, Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Sokari Sokari, and Orubienimigha Timothy claimant, Justice Wali has restrained the 25 legislative members from carrying out any legislative meeting or sitting at the Auditorium of the House of Assembly Quarters located at Off Aba Road, Port Harcourt, or at any other place whatsoever.

Meanwhile, the seats are declared vacant until the hearing of the suit and the decision made in the proceeding.
The court however adjourned the case to July 1, 2024, as it marked the the next hearing date.
