As Kwara State continues its pursuit of educational excellence, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s on Wednesday appealed for TETFUND’s assistance, signaling a concerted effort to ensure that the state’s tertiary institutions remain at the forefront of academic advancement and innovation.
The chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), with other political figures, met with TETFUND officials, in Abuja Yesterday to advocate for enhanced support for the state’s tertiary institutions and a comprehensive upgrade of its colleges of education.
With political figures like Mr Sadiq Umar, Senator representing the North Kwara and House of Representatives members, Ahmed Yinka Aluko and Mukhtar Tolani Shagaya, Governor AbdulRazaq engaged in discussions with TETFUND’s executive secretary, Mr Sonny Echono, and his team, emphasizing the critical need for infrastructure development within the state’s educational sector.
In Governor AbdulRazaq’s statement, he highlighted the administration’s ambitious plans to elevate one of the Colleges of Education to a full-fledged University of Education, stressed on the need for substantial investments to realize this transformative vision.
“Our administration has begun the process of elevating one of the three Colleges to a University of Education in the first instance, while others will follow later. To execute our transformative plans for these institutions, we need to commit new investments into them, especially in the area of infrastructure. This is where we seek the support of TETFund,” the governor said.
He underscored the significant strides made since assuming office in 2019, noting the revitalization efforts that have rescued the colleges of education from neglect and instability.
Expressing gratitude for TETFUND’s past contributions to Kwara State University, particularly the recent inauguration of a state library facility, Governor AbdulRazaq underlined the importance of ongoing support from the agency to further enhance educational infrastructure across the state.
In his statement, AbdulRazaq commended “TETFund for acting true to the mandate of its founding. Whether in the North or South of the country, the footprints of TETFUND are visible enough.
“I specifically thank the agency for the huge investments in Kwara State University, including the recently commissioned modern library, which is one of the best in the country today. We hope to get more.”

The governor also welcomed innovative management strategies and educational reforms aimed at equipping Kwara’s institutions with modern teaching practices tailored to meet the demands of the 21st-century global economy.
“We welcome new management thinking and reforms that will support our schools to imbibe modern teaching practices and techniques that fully consider the realities of the 21st century global economy,” the governor commented.
