A massive fire ripped through the Gombe Mobile Police Barracks on Wednesday, causing extensive damage and estimated losses of N100 million. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The fire, which broke out at the 34 PMF Squadron located along Kwami town, consumed several buildings, including the armoury, according to Deputy Controller of Fire, Ayuba Jonah-Sule of the Gombe State Command of the Federal Fire Service.
“It was a major fire involving a 25-bedroom compound covering a large area,” Jonah-Sule stated. “Despite the challenges, our firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and save property worth N25 million.”
He further revealed that this incident occurred on the same day as another fire at a five-bedroom flat in Kwanan Dan Aranga. The Fire Service team swiftly extinguished both fires, preventing further damage.
This unfortunate event comes less than a week after Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya approved N5 million to aid victims of a fire at the Blacksmith (Makera) shops in Gombe Main Market. The December 25th blaze destroyed equipment and goods worth of millions.
