Residents of Kogi State are groaning over fuel scarcity as filling stations remain closed in most parts of the state due to a lack of fuel.
Transportation within the state has gone up; a short-distance journey that was hitherto N300 is now N700.
The black markets are now selling a litre of fuel for N1200, while a few filling stations that own fuel are selling it for N750 to N800.
In Lokoja, the state capital, most of the filling stations were under lock and key, as they were denying not having fuel.

Many have resorted to trekking, especially some civil servants who had to go to work on Monday as the fuel escalated. The prices of food items had gone up due to the increase in petroleum prices.
Major eateries are lamenting as customers have deserted them due to a lack of mobility.
The proprietor of Ojochide Eastry, Mr Godfrey Egbunu at Ganaja Junction in Lokoja, who spoke with our correspondent, decried the fuel scarcity situation, which has affected the level of customer patronage.
“We are getting fed up with this business because there is no patronage any more. Most of these commuters that used to board vehicles from the park here are no longer coming since this fuel crisis started, and they have been our source of sales,” he disclosed.
A walk through the ever-busy Ganaja junction in Lokoja show that all is not well as there is no traffic on the road.
