In response to controlling hunger crisis in Nigeria, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to distribute a substantial quantity of grains, totaling 42,000 metric tonnes, to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians struggling to afford basic food necessities.
During the inaugural Ministerial Press Conference held in Abuja today, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, underscored the administration’s commitment to addressing the surging food prices, stating that President Bola Tinubu’s government is resolute in ensuring essential food items are accessible and affordable for all citizens.
The minister revealed that arrangements for the distribution of grains across various regions in the country are underway in collaboration with the Department of State Security Services and the National Emergency Management Agency, aimed at streamlining the process and ensuring its success.
Beyond immediate relief efforts, Minister Kyari outlined the government’s strategic initiatives to bolster food production and eradicate food shortages. Notably, the government plans to enlist the support of state governors in identifying authentic farmers to benefit from interventions geared towards enhancing agricultural productivity.
Highlighting the challenges to food security, such as flooding and insecurity, coupled with Nigeria’s rapidly growing population, Minister Kyari emphasized the urgency of implementing comprehensive measures to safeguard the nation’s food supply.
Additionally, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, emphasized the significance of the Ministerial Press Briefing Series in fostering transparency and accountability, enabling the media and the public to gain insight into the government’s efforts to realize the Renewed Hope agenda.
