To celebrate the strength and resilience of the Police Force, the Federal Government has announced April 7 would henceforth be recognised as National Police Day in Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu made this declaration during the maiden edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Monday night.
President Tinubu revealed that his administration is determined to uphold and transform the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) into a modern, professional, and accountable institution.
He highlighted the importance of engaging the force personnel with capacity building to enhance their prowess in executing their various tasks.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Media Communications, coveted this information on April 15.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu, said the aim of the approval was to honour the force for their bravery.
In a speech, titled: “Courage Under Fire: A Bouquet for Our Police Force,” VP Shettima stressed that the Force requires a fundamental overhaul of the nation’s institutional mentality and memory.
Mr. Shettima emphasised that security personnel need to be trained with the technical knowledge, skills, values, and expertise required to tackle the complex challenges of effectiveness and efficiency delivery.
Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, appreciated the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for acknowledging outstanding servicemen and noted that this will encourage others to improve in their services as they carry out their duties in serving humanity.
Furthermore, Egbetokun, in his speech, thanked the commanding officer of the federation for his administrative support and for overseeing various tasks that were executed.
As he continued to address the force men, he charged the awardees that their service to the country has been written in the hearts of the nation and will forever be remembered.
Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and former IGP, appealed that the welfare of the security personnel should be prioritised.
