Anambra Police Command has refuted the rumours surrounding the laying of the remains of the widely known veteran actor, Junior Pope to rest at the bank of Anam River.
Recall that the actor and four others had lost their lives on April 10 after their boat capsized into the Anam River in Anambra West Local Government Area when they were returning from the location of the movie titled “The Other Side of Life.”
On Sunday, the police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, termed the claims as false. Only three families out of five victims who were involved authorised that they should be buried close to the river, while one body was exhumed after being buried.
“The Command, on an inquiry about the unconfirmed information that the recovered bodies, including Junior Pope, were buried by the riverside where the boat accident happened, discovered that three of the deceased families accepted that the victim should be buried beside the river,” said Ikenga.
“But later, the family of one of the victims decided to exhume the body to be given a proper burial in her state, while the other two were still buried there.”
Meanwhile, Ikenga disclosed that two of the boat operators had been arrested, and the movie producer, Adanma Luke, turned herself in voluntarily.

“Meanwhile, the producer of the movie and the two boat drivers’ statements have been obtained, and other necessary actions and moves have already been taken by the operatives as directed by the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Aderemi Adeoye.
“This is to determine the criminal liability of any person, if any, in the mishap.”
Further details revealed that the remains of Junior Pope and one other body are yet to be buried and they are still at the morgue.
SP Ikenga noted that the investigation is ongoing as the matter is of public concern.
