A security guard was critically injured in a shooting outside the Toronto home of Canadian rapper Drake, as confirmed by Toronto police.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at around 02:00 EDT (06:00 GMT) in the upscale Park Lane Circle area where Drake resides.
Authorities report that the guard was shot by assailants from a vehicle, who then quickly fled the scene. It is currently unclear if Drake was at his residence during the attack or if he was the intended target.
The shooting unfolds amidst a heated public dispute between Drake and American rapper Kendrick Lamar. The verbal altercation has escalated with both artists releasing “diss tracks” targeting each other.
Over the weekend, Lamar’s track “Not Like Us” took aim at Drake with serious allegations and featured cover art depicting Drake’s home. Drake’s rebuttal came in the form of “The Heart Part 6,” where he expresses his disgust over the accusations.
Inspector Paul Krawczyk from the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force emphasized that it is premature to discuss a motive but confirmed ongoing cooperation with Drake’s team.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the scene, though details remain undisclosed due to video quality issues.
The injured guard was swiftly transported to the hospital and remains in serious condition after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the chest.
