President Felix Tshisekedi, following disputed December elections, takes the oath for a second term in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, vowing for a more united and prosperous nation.
During the inauguration in Kinshasa, President Tshisekedi addressed citizens’ expectations, including unemployment, youth issues, women’s rights, and national cohesion.
Amidst simmering tensions in the east, Tshisekedi chose Kinshasa’s Martyrs sports stadium for the ceremony, packed with cheering crowds and dignitaries from African states and traditional chiefs.

First sworn in controversially in 2019, Tshisekedi won the December 20 elections with over 70% of the vote and a turnout of 40%, facing opposition rejection and calls for mobilization.
Opposition candidates which includes Moise Katumbi, who came second, contested the results, citing logistical problems, late openings, and illegible voter cards.
Despite unfulfilled promises from his first term, Tshisekedi campaigned using punchline achievements such as free primary medication, among others – all in a bid to seek a mandate to consolidate progress amid discontent and calls for result cancellations.
