In the wake of Wizkid’s controversial announcement distancing himself from the Afrobeats genre, social media influencer Daniel Regha has stepped forward to offer his perspective.

Regha, known for his commentary on Nigerian music, highlighted the contrasting approach of artistes like Olamide, Phyno, and Flavour, who have maintained their allegiance to Afrobeats while evolving creatively.
He noted that artistes such as Olamide, Phyno, and Flavour, popular for their lyrical geniuses, have never disrespected Afrobeats or undermined their past work to assert their artistic direction.
“These are some of the best lyricists in the game,” Regha emphasised, pointing to their unwavering commitment to their original sound. Despite their success and experimentation with different styles.
In contrast to Wizkid’s departure from Afrobeats, Regha lamented the trend among some artistes who, in pursuit of innovation or global recognition, stray from their cultural roots.
“Many artistes nowadays don’t know the importance of sticking to their roots,” Regha said.
