The Nigeria Police has distanced itself from a report purportedly released by a deputy commissioner of police indicting the governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on allegations concerning certificate forgery, perjury, and examination malpractice levelled against him.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, in a statement in Abuja on Friday, said, “The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) wishes to address the recent circulation of a document purportedly containing conclusions of an investigation into allegations against the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The document alleges fraudulent misrepresentation, certificate forgery, examination malpractice, and perjury against the governor.
“We wish to clarify that the said document did not originate from the Nigeria Police Force. The alleged signatory, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, does not have the authority to release such a report on behalf of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) or any other such Departments within the Nigeria Police Force.”
Stating further, ACP Adejobi disclosed that the NPF is currently investigating the origin of the said document and the circumstances surrounding its circulation.
The NPF therefore urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading unverified information that could potentially tarnish the reputation of individuals or public officials.
The statement equally assured the General public that an investigation shall be made into the matter and the outcome will be made known to the people.
Recall that social media and online platforms haD been bombarded with embarrassing content on the academic status of the incumbent governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Governor was alleged to have forged his academic qualifications leading to the alleged indictment by the Nigeria Police but the news had now been denied by the police.
