Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has been nominated for the Bundesliga Rookie of the year following his brilliant debut for Bayer Leverkusen.
Boniface was nominated alongside Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen, who has done well for Borussia Dortmund since joining the club in January, RB Leipzig Xavi Simons, also on loan from PSG and Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier.
Through out the season Boniface has been a four-time recipient of the monthly version of the award which he won in August, September, October and November after notching seven goals and five assists in his first 12 games.

He was also in contention for the Golden Boot earlier on in the campaign alongside VfB Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy and Harry Kane, the England international, who’s on course to end the season as top scorer with 36 goals followed by Serhou Guirassy with 26 goals and Lois Openda with 24.
Boniface, however, ends his Bundesliga season with 13 goals and 8 assists making him the nominee with the most goal contributions.
In other related news, Bayer Leverkusen stretched their season-long unbeaten run to 50 games after thrashing 10-man Bochum 5-0.
Bochum beat Leverkusen 3-0 in May 2023, but the tables turned with Leverkusen’s goals coming from five different scorers.
Alonso’s Leverkusen are now just one game away from the first unbeaten Bundesliga season and three games from a remarkable treble.
Bochum lost a man early when Felix Passlack saw red for a last-man foul on Nigerian Nathan Tella.
With attacking midfield maestro Florian Wirtz missing through injury, Alonso started strikers Victor Boniface and Patrik Schick and both had found the net by half-time.
Within three days in late May Leverkusen treble ambition would be decided as Leverkusen face Atalanta in the Europa League final in Dublin before taking on second-division Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final.
